Blogs, bloggers, writers supporting writers, and a Liebster Award.

Twice in the last month, my blog/instagram page have been mentioned on another writer’s blog and I have to say, it feels awesome. The fact that anyone is even reading my blog is pretty amazing and to have someone go so far as to take a moment out of their day to mention me – well, it sure does make a girl want to blush. It means the world to me because it means that I’m doing some good and helping others and that is the best feeling in the world.

The first mention was from Keystrokes and Closed Doors. The owner, Shelly, posted a blog about beating writer’s block and listed my Instagram account as a good source for writing prompts. Shelly is a writer, blogger, editor, and Instagram motivator. You can follow her journey at her blog or Instagram page @Keystrokes and Closed Doors.

The other person is Aino – she hosts Writing Days and nominated me for the Liebester Award. Aino is an actress, writer, and blogger. Her blog is an online break room for writers – check her out on Instagram @The Writing Days_Blog.

I’d honestly never heard of the Liebester Award but after several Google searches, I’ve discovered it’s a fun way to show recognition to the blogs you love and share some of your favorites with others. I found more than one set of rules and I’m following the ones I found at the Writing Days, since she nominated me.

I’ve posted my answers to Aino’s questions below and the rules and links at the bottom of this post.

1. What made you want to start a blog?

A series of inspiring events led me start my blog and my very first post touched on some of them. I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember and a few years ago, after a long spell of not writing anything at all, the flood gates opened and the words began to pour out. Less than 24 hours after that, I ran into an aspiring writer who (without any information from me about my book) told me about the journey he had begun to publish his first book. I still remember sitting across from him, stunned, listening to his journey and thinking “I want do that, I can do that..I’m going to do that.”

2. Who is your biggest inspiration?

I don’t have a particular person. I admire those that are living life to the fullest, those that are working towards their dreams, and I’m inspired by writers that work hard at their craft and strive to tell their story, their way.

3. If your life was turned into a TV series, what would the theme song be?

Where are we running? ~Lenny Kravitz

4. What’s your favorite season and why?

Summer, I love the heat. I love the way the sun warms the skin and makes a person flush. Sunny days make me want to be outside, even if it’s just to nap under a tree.

5. What are your tricks to stay motivated?

I run an Instagram account and post quotes on it each day. Searching for those bits of daily inspiration to share with my followers, keeps my mind primed and spinning with ideas.

6. What dream of yours have you accomplished?

While in the big picture I would vote my life a success, my dream was to be a writer. Thus, blog aside, I’ll keep you posted.

7. What was the first thing you read?

I’m not sure about the first, but my favorite book was always The Velveteen Rabbit.

8. If you could learn any skill overnight, what would it be?

Self-defense.

9. Why should I watch your favorite film?

‘Cause I have awesome taste (kidding, I couldn’t help it). I truly would have a hard time selecting a favorite movie because it greatly matters on my mood. I’m definitely an action-adventure type of person: Die Hard, Shooter, The Departed, etc. One of my all time favorites though is one that should remind you to step out of your gray box and live your dreams: Office Space. Yes, that’s right, I feel that this I.T. comedy sums up the life we are all pushed into living and the subsequent potential breakdown that can befall all of us. It’s a hilarious take on life in a cubicle and each time I watch it, it’s a struggle for me to return to work the next day.

10. If you had to participate in a reality TV show, which one would you pick?

The Amazing Race – I don’t know how far I’d make it but the experience would be amazing.

This is Awesome.

I’ve previously posted about the varying word count recommendations that I have come across in my research. A few days ago, I stumbled onto Andrew Winkel’s website and he had a link that got me excited ( it’s possible I’ll be the only one).

Are you curious how many words are in your favorite book? I certainly am and I thought this would be a fairly simple thing to find; but, after searching Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and several other sites, I was surprised that the word count was not listed anywhere.

AR Book Find, however, provides the word count. I’d rather research the books that I love and respect and consider their length than take advice from unverified sources. In the big picture, word count, isn’t the final destination; but, I do think it’s a good bench mark in determining whether or not your story is fully developed. See below.
